NAABA Celebrates Amir H. Ali’s Historic Confirmation to the Federal Bench

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: November 20, 2024

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate has confirmed Amir H. Ali to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, making him the first Arab American to serve in this role.  Ali is also the first National Arab American Bar Association (NAABA) member to ascend to the federal bench.

NAABA celebrates this historic achievement. The son of Egyptian immigrants and a Harvard Law graduate, Ali brings a distinguished career as a civil rights advocate and law professor to the bench. Before his nomination, Ali led the MacArthur Justice Center as President and Executive Director while also serving as Director of Harvard Law School’s Criminal Justice Appellate Clinic since 2018.

We extend our gratitude to the countless advocates who championed Ali’s confirmation. This milestone represents a significant step forward for justice, diversity, and representation in our federal judiciary. We look forward to working with future administrations to promote qualified candidates, including Arab American jurists, to the federal judiciary.
